Mar 24, 2014 - StaffLeonard C. Gaines, of Lander, died unexpectedly of natural causes Saturday, March 22, 2014. He was 39 years old.
A viewing will be 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, at Davis Funeral Home in Riverton. A celebration of life service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 27, at Church of Christ, 1320 Sinks Canyon Road, Lander.
Leonard Clint Gaines was born July 12, 1974, in Tulsa, Okla., the son of Howard Frank and Nina Bernice Gaines. He graduated from Ponderosa High School in Franktown, Colo., and from Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Mo., with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. He has lived the last five years in Lander.
He was an instructor and trainer in many fields for the Wyoming Department of Corrections and was active in establishing an office in Dubois.
His family said he loved to hike and rock climb in the Lander area, and he especially enjoyed Sinks Canyon and the Wind River Mountains.
He is survived by his fiancee, Whitney Sheller, of Lander; children Dante, Brayden, Naomi and Natalie, all of Lander; parents Howard and Bernice Gaines of Neosho, Mo.; and sisters Michelle M. Gaines of Austin, Texas, and Anita Cheryl Bundy, of Springfield, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ruth Zweifel, H.F. Gaines, and Marie Gaines.
Memorials may be made to the National Outdoor Leadership School in care of Davis Funeral Home, 2203 W. Main St., Riverton, WY 82501.
