My NCAA men's hoops pick still alive in Sweet 16

Mar 26, 2014 - By Bruce Tippets, Sports Editor

I usually cheer for Mountain West Conference teams in the postseason, but not this week.

My NCAA men's bracket took some major blows in the first four full days, but I'm still alive as long as the Arizona Wildcats keep on winning.

I still believe the Wildcats have the best road to the Final Four in the do-or-die tournament.

Arizona breezed in to the Round of 16 with easy victories over Weber State and Gonzaga.

Up next for the Wildcats is San Diego State.

SDSU is carrying the Mountain West Conference this year in the tournament.

I usually cheer for the MWC teams about 90 percent of the time when it comes to the postseason tournaments.

It's not going to happen on Thursday night.

The Wildcats have too much firepower vs. San Diego State's topnotch defense and should win by at least 10 points.

The winner of the SDSU-Arizona game plays the winner of Baylor-Wisconsin for a spot in the Final Four.

I like the way Baylor is pounding the ball inside to dominate its opponents,

I'm picking Baylor to shock Wisconsin for right to advance in the tournament.

The best game in the tournament was when Kentucky ended the dream season by Wichita State on Sunday afternoon.

The game had a little bit of everything a fan could want. The Kentucky young guns proved they have the potential to play with the best teams in the bracket.

Florida is on track for a Final Four spot coming out of the South Region.

Florida is up against UCLA, but the Gators should go inside against the PAC-12 team and get the win.

Kansas and Duke get the label as the most disappointing teams with the highest seeds making a quick exit from the tournament.

Duke is a great regular season team, but kind of a shaky team come tournament time. Mercer pulled off the upset over Duke, while Stanford eliminated second-seeded Kansas.

On the other hand, Arizona has all the tools for a national championship run. I'm counting on the Wildcats to make this a very enjoyable two weeks for me.
