Dorothy Mathern, of Riverton, died Monday, April 7, 2014, at Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation-Wind River. She was 86 years old.
A viewing will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, April 11, at Davis Funeral Home. A rosary will follow the viewing. A funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at St. Margaret's Catholic Church with burial at Mountain View Cemetery.
Dorothy Emma Marie Worf was born Feb. 14, 1928, in Big Timber, Mont., the daughter of Charles and Florence (Duell) Worf. She was one of four children -- two boys and two girls. She graduated high school and then attended college in Bozeman, Mont., earning her associate degree in business.
On Jan. 23, 1953, she married Pius Cecilius Mathern in Billings, Mont. Together they raised four children: Kenneth, Shirley, Robert and Penny. The family lived in Billings, Mont., Powell, Cody and finally Riverton.
Mrs. Mathern was a stay-at-home mother and housewife. While raising her children, she also worked as a cook for the school lunch program. Her family said this was an ideal job for her, because she would be off the same days as her children, and she was always home when school got out for the day.
Her family said she loved camping and traveling, and she was an amazing cook and an excellent seamstress. She even made her daughters' clothing for family vacations in the summer. She also loved being with her family and all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Pius, of Riverton; children Kenneth (Marilyn) Mathern of Great Falls, Mont., Shirley (Roger) Wagner of Casper, Robert (Michele) Mathern of Riverton and Penny (Brent) Pollard of Riverton; grandchildren Patrick Mathern, Waylon Mathern, Marty Mathern, Jerrell Mathern, Alex Mathern, Scott Wagner, Justin Wagner, Brett Wagner, Trisa Wagner-Russell, Delayne Renner and Seth Mathern; great-grandchildren Addison Wagner, Kenna Wagner, Kyndall Renner, Harlowe Newton, Finn Mathern, Carson Wagner and three others "on their way"; and granddog Roxxy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Florence Worf; brothers Laurel and Bill Worf; sister Doreen Mathern; and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-laws.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, St. Margaret's Catholic Church or St. Margaret's Catholic School in care of Davis Funeral Home, 2203 W. Main St., Riverton, WY 82501.
