Apr 25, 2014 - By Alejandra Silva, Staff WriterClinton D. Wagon became the newest member of the Eastern Shoshone Business Council after a special election concluded April 16. Wagon fills the seat formerly held by Harrison "Bunny" Shoyo Jr., who died in December.
"I'm very thankful and happy that tribal members followed the election process," Wagon said. "I look forward to working for the Eastern Shoshone people."
Wagon's name was the only one on the ballot April 15, and a tally of votes was not available. Chairman Darwin St. Clair Jr. congratulated Wagon and reminded those in attendance of the vacancy left by Shoyo. St. Clair said Shoyo's advice to him was to "do your best."
St. Clair asked Wagon to consider all of the tribal members when placing a vote on an issue.
"This is a different place than many people think it is," St. Clair told Wagon. "It will test your wisdom."
St. Clair added that there already were several items for him to get started on. Soon after Wagon was sworn in by judge John St. Clair, the quorum of four members proceeded into a meeting.
"I'm not working just for small groups of people but for the entire tribe," Wagon said.
Wagon also serves on the Fremont County School District 21 Board of Trustees.
