Busy Saturday on Riverton's volleyball courts for AAU event

Apr 25, 2014 - By Bruce Tippets, Sports Editor

Gyms will be filled all over Riverton for the AAU volleyball tournament Saturday.

There are slated to be 35 volleyball teams in for the one-day tournament.

"It's kind of a smaller tournament this year," Riverton AAU president Suzie Koehn said. "This year, there are two other tournaments around the state."

Riverton teams

Eight Riverton teams will be in the different age brackets.

"They are spread out in the age groups," Koehn said.

In the past, Riverton has had at least 10 teams playing in the AAU league.

"It seems to hang around eight or 10 teams," Koehn said.

Teams from Riverton in the U12 division are Riverton Rock Stars, Wyo Ice and Volley chicks.

"I would say the U12 to U16 is pretty competitive," Koehn said. "You have a lot of Casper schools and Cheyenne schools."

Riverton Sizzle, Bomb Diggity 1 and Bomb Diggity 2 are in the U14 division.

The Slam 'n Jam and the Triple B are in the U16 division.

The Riverton Elite is in the U18 league.

The tournament will use three courts at Wolverine Gym.

Two courts will be played at Riverton Middle School.

Central Wyoming College the St. Margaret's School gym will have two courts apiece.

The tournament features pool play games in the morning.

Bracket play will be held in the afternoon.
