Cowboy golfers second after two rounds of MWC tourney

Apr 28, 2014 - From staff reports

TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Wyoming's Kamrin Allen shot a 76 (+5) during the second round of the 2014 Mountain West Championship on the par-71, 7,144 yard Catalina Course at the Omni Tucson National Golf Resort on Saturday. With the final round set to be played Sunday, Allen leads the Pokes and is tied for 15th place with a score of 145 (+3) in the 55-man field.

"It was a tough weather day," UW head coach Joe Jensen said. "The wind and a little rain can make the scores go a little higher than what we want.

"Kamrin (Allen) didn't look as comfortable as he did yesterday but he is gaining valuable experience and I think only helps him heading into the final round tomorrow."

The Pokes combined to shoot a second-round tally of 303 (+19) on Saturday and now have a two-round total of 593 (+25). Wyoming is seven strokes behind Colorado State and Nevada for fifth place and 12 shots behind Air Force for fourth place in the 11-team field.

Freshman Ryan Wallen and senior Brent Baylon recorded Wyoming's best rounds on the day. They each shot a second-round score of 75 (+4). Wallen is tied for 24th place with a two-day total of 148 (+6).

Baylon is one shot back of Wallen with a 149 (+7) and currently sits tied for 29th place with the final round remaining. Fighting food poisoning, senior Eddie Stewart has a total tally of 152 (+10) after two rounds. He shot a 77 (+6) on Saturday and is tied for 40th place. Senior Eric Parish recorded a second-round score of 82 (+11) to bring his two-day total to 156 (+14).
