Five from RHS, two Lander in track classic

May 2, 2014 - By Bruce Tippets, Sports Editor

Five Riverton Wolverines have qualified for the annual Wyoming Track Classic Friday afternoon in Casper.

RHS boys in the field are Sean Watts, Shepp Campbell and Riley Reichert.

Ashtyn Leisy and Jensyn Pettit earned a position for the RHS girls.

"It's always a good experience to be recognized for your achievements, but more importantly it gives our top athletes opportunity to go head-to-head with the best competition they will see all year," RHS co-head coach Jorah Griffith said.

Lander runners in the field are Tristan Herr and Marvin Aragon.

Dubois standout Sterling Baker made it in the hurdles.

The classic invited the top 10 performers in all events, regardless of classifications, except for the 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters and both hurdle events. Those races are for the top eight performers and any ties.

Watts enters the classic with an opportunity to compete for the title in the 100 meters and the 200 meters.

Watts has the second-best time in the state at 10.93 in the 100 meters.

Carlos Salcido from Rock Springs is first in the 100 meters at 10.84.

Watts sits fourth in the 200 meters in 22.31. Salcido has posted the top time in 21.95.

Campbell made it in the high jump at 6-3 and in the triple jump (42-4.).

Reichert has a spot in the discus (150-2).

Pettit will be running the 300-meter hurdles after clocking a time of 48.03.

Leisy has the fourth-best distance in the long jump at 17-1.25.

"For both Ashtyn and Jensyn, they need to focus on getting a good warmup and keep the adrenalin contained," Griffith said. "If they relax and focus on enjoying the moment, they will both do just fine."
