May 4, 2014 - From staff reportsLander's Pioneer Days festivities were still a couple of months away in May 1961, put preparations already were off and running.
An enjoyable preview of the summer fun came with the selection of the Pioneer Days royalty.
Judges chose 19-year-old Gerry Aubuchon, center, of Lander.
The daughter of Mr. ad Mrs. Jack Aubuchon was a Lander native who moved with her family to Cheyenne and graduated from high school there.
The family returned to Lander early in 1961, and Gerry was working as a receptionist at Bishop Randall Hospital in Lander.
The two attendants were Kathy Hedges, left, a senior at Fremont County Vocational High School (now Lander Valley High School), and Judith Kay Otte, 16, a sophomore at FCVHS.
The Pioneer Days royalty contest was May 14, 1961.
