Massey and Kaufman go 1-2 on home golf course

May 5, 2014 - By Bruce Tippets, Sports Editor

Trey Massey and Scott Kaufman the Lander Tigers finished in the top two spots Friday at the Lander Invitational golf tournament.

Massey claimed his home individual title with a 73.

Kaufman finished with a 75 in the spring tournament.

Riverton's Jayd Dion and Nick Snyder of Cody tied in the third spot after playing to a 77.

Lander won the team title with a score of 323. Cody finished second at 362, and Thermopolis came in third at 403.

Riverton didn't have enough golfers to field a team in the 18-hole tournament.

The Wolverines played in the Powell Invitational tournament on April 25 with Easton Paxton coming in the top position.

Paxton outlasted the field with a 71.

Riverton eighth-grader Jordan James finished with a 79 in the 18-hole tournament.

If James would have been in the varsity division he would have tied for fourth.

"He is the kid that practices hard every day," RHS coach Lars Flanagan said.

"He reminds me a lot of our freshman class."

The RHS freshman led the team to the Class 4-A state championship last fall.

Flanagan is using the spring season to play his younger players in the top level competition.

"I think that it's good for them to be thrown into varsity competition so they know what it's like and what they have to be like," Flanagan said.
