Shooting range open house set for Saturday
Apr 20, 2012 - By Emily Etheredge, Staff Writer
Shawn Tessman, treasurer of the Riverton Shooting Club, approached the Riverton City Council on Tuesday to inform the members that the Riverton Rifle Range is now open.
An open house for the new rifle range will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 21.
"We would like everyone to know that we are now officially open and invite anyone to come out and see the place," Tessman said.
Saturday brings the official grand opening of the range, but Tessman said shooters have been using the range ever since permits were granted from the city in October.
"There have been shots fired down there since October, and at the end of March, we had 4-H kids who started using the rifle range with .22 pistols, .22 rifles and muzzleloaders," Tessman said. "You name it, we have shot it."
There will be a raffle for a .22 pistol, range orientation and membership drive, and shooting competitions also are planned.
Anyone interested in the open house is invited to bring a .22 rifle or pistol and take part in the day's planned events.
"We will have shooting, games and food, so it is going to be a wonderful day," Tessman said.
The rifle range is a privately-run club. Membership for National Rifle Association members is $50, and a family membership is $85. There is a $5 daily fee for non-members.
Riverton City Councilman Richard Gard said he really appreciated "the gun range guys" and thought the open house would be a wonderful event.
