LVHS golfers wrap up spring tour

May 19, 2014 - By Bruce Tippets, Sports Editor

Golf coach Terry Berg now has a better idea on who is going to be in the starting lineup for the Lander Tigers in the fall after completing the spring season.

The Tigers concluded the year Friday, May 16, at the Jackson Invitational.

Lander won the Class 3-A state championship in the fall.

"This spring season went well," Berg said. "I have such good kids who work hard at it. We still need to improve. We have areas that we need to concentrate on. Hopefully, the kids will play through the summer."

The Tigers are graduating four seniors this month, Casey Winger, Sam Brodie, Scott Kaufman and Levi Stuttle.

"Those four are all great kids who formed a nice team together and worked hard all the time," Berg said. "They were fun to have."

The Riverton Wolverines were set to be at the Casper Invitational on Monday, but the tournament was cancelled because of the weather. The spring season is now finished for the Wolverines

Final tournament

The 18-hole Jackson Invitational was held at the Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis course.

"We had some kids that played it pretty well and some who struggled with it," Berg said. "It's a long course, especially for girls."

The course had 168 sand traps.

"We had to play through a buffalo that was on the course," Berg said. "The kids had to be real careful where they played."

The Lander boys finished third in the team standings with a 362. Trey Massey was third individually after carding a 79.

In the girls team standings, Lander was second (334) behind Evanston (276).

Valarie Morris finished fifth at 102 for LVHS.
