Nancy "Judy" Hurt, of Shoshoni, died Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at home. She was 72 years old.
A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at the Community Presbyterian Church in Shoshoni. A private graveside service will precede the memorial service at the Lakeview Cemetery in Shoshoni.
Nancy Judith Hart was born Nov. 17, 1941, in Thermopolis, the daughter of Lester Lloyd and Hulda Inez (Lawrence) Hart. She was one of nine children and grew up in and around the Thermopolis area. She graduated high school in Sandpoint, Idaho.
On May 19, 1979, she married the Rev. Dr. Harold R. Hurt in Shoshoni.
The couple lived in many towns in the western United States. They lived in Casper many years before settling in Shoshoni 12 years ago. While raising her children she worked as a teacher's aide at Arapahoe School. When she was in Casper, she worked as a realtor. She was also a foster parent for many years, being a mother to more than a 100 children.
She was involved in the Community Presbyterian Church in Shoshoni providing refreshments for fellowship. She was also an elder and past church treasurer. Her family said she believed strongly in St. Jude's of Montana and always donated to it.
They said that she enjoyed sewing, cooking fudge and brownies, gardening, attending garage sales, collecting antiques, delivering Meals on Wheels, helping others, taking care of foster children, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Marcy Whitaker and her husband Randy, Mark Kohler and his wife Lori and Jacques Kohler; adopted children Thomas Kohler and Kevin Jenkins; stepdaughter Sheila Hurt-Jorgensen; stepsons Jeffrey Hurt, Bradley Hurt and his wife Jean, John Hurt and Rick Hurt and his wife Kristen; brothers Melvin Hart and his wife Carol, Max Hart and Jack Hart; sisters Mary Jordon and Lorraine and her husband Sherel Goodrich; sisters-in-law Millie, Betty and Naomi; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Inez Hart; husband the Rev. Dr. Harold Hurt; adopted daughter Karla Jenkins; brother Kevin Hart; sister Billie Shoopman; and infant sister Shirley.
Memorials may be made to the Community Presbyterian Church in Shoshoni in care of Davis Funeral Home, 2203 W. Main St., Riverton, WY 82501.
