Ruth Francis Spoonhunter

Ruth Francis Spoonhunter, of Tucson, Ariz., died Friday, May 23, 2014, at Avalon Health Care in Tucson, Ariz. She was 82 years old.

A memorial service conducted by tribal elders will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at the Martin Spoonhunter residence, 897 17 Mile Road.

Ruth Francis Spoonhunter was born Jan. 8, 1933, in Arapahoe, the daughter of James Francis and Marguerite Agnes (Warren) Spoonhunter. She was a member of the Northern Arapaho Tribe. She attended St. Stephen's School and Riverton High School.

She was a member of the Catholic faith and routinely attended services at St. John's Catholic Church and San Xavier Del Bac Mission, both in Tucson, Ariz.

Her family said she was an avid reader, an excellent seamstress, and enjoyed cooking and collecting antiques.

She is survived by her sisters, Charlene Hoover, Marg St. Clair and her husband Reuben, Delores Cuch and Agnes Logan; brothers W.J. George Spoonhunter and Martin (Jackie) Spoonhunter; aunts Anita Portwood and Geraldine Brown; uncles John A. Warren Sr. and Robert Warren; children Toni Williams and family, Sergio A. Maldonado Sr. and family, Rebecca Moore and family and Ruben Maldonado; grandchildren Christina M. Maldonado (John), Vanessa R. Maldonado (Brandon), Sergio A. Maldonado Jr. (Karen), Blue GroundBear Maldonado (Katy), Katie J. Maldonado, Jarad F. Maldonado and Marissa I. Maldonado; and great-grandchildren Jaden Pularo, Jackson Tomljenovic and Levi Tomljenovic.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James F. and Marguerite A. Spoonhunter; brothers Phillip R. 'Bob' Spoonhunter and Theodore A. Spoonhunter; sisters Marian Spoonhunter, Geraldine Shakespeare and Joan A. Spoonhunter; brothers-in-law Ray Logan and Alfred C'Hair; grandparents Roy and Angela (Lone Bear) Spoonhunter, Ben Sr., and Pauline(Underwood) Warren and her son Julian J. Maldonado.
