Jun 19, 2014 - By Katie Roenigk, Staff WriterA 29-year-old Wiggins, Colo., woman was killed in a one-vehicle rollover at about 4 a.m. Wednesday east of Shoshoni.
Officials say Cheryl L. Rapue was westbound on U.S. Highway 20 when the 2007 international commercial vehicle she was driving left the roadway to the north.
"She realized she'd left the roadway, steered hard to the left, overcorrected, and left the road on the south side," Wyoming Highway Patrol Lt. Tom Adams said.
The vehicle rolled one and a quarter time and came to rest on the driver's side. Adams said it is unknown whether Rapue was wearing a seatbelt, but she was ejected from the vehicle.
She was transported to SageWest Health Care at Riverton where she died at 8:09 a.m.
Adams said driver fatigue is being investigated as a factor contributing to the crash, though he added, "We'll probably never know."
The vehicle Rapue was driving was a contract truck carrying mail from Douglas to the Big Horn Basin for the U.S. Postal Service. Reports state the cargo area of the truck was breached during the rollover, and Adams said papers and packages were "scattered all over" at the scene of the crash.
"There were probably a dozen mail people out there collecting," Adams said. "We think they got it all."
The postal employees delivered the mail after troopers had completed their investigation.
