Jun 19, 2014 - By Kelli Ameling, Staff WriterThe Dance Academy in Lander has received the Studio of Excellence Award from the American Dance Competition Corporation.
Studio owner Susan Cooper said she was "very honored" to get the award.
"This was a new award started by the ADCC, and I was very surprised," Cooper said. "There are so many great studios out there, and my studio was one of 17 studios at he competition. I was thrilled, honored and humbled."
Cooper said the award not only reflected the quality of dance the studio is producing but the quality of the person dancing.
"The studio was recognized for the Studio of Excellence award based on technique, sportsmanship, showmanship and teamwork," Cooper said. "This is what I want my dancers to learn. To be great dancers and great people."
Cooper said she wants her dancers to be a team, work together and love each other, which she said takes "a lot to teach."
At the studio, Cooper requires discipline, hard work and dedication from the dancers, along with respect for each other and dancers across the state and country.
"I never want anyone to be able to say my girls are not good sportsmen," Cooper said. "These are lessons they will carry through their life even if they never dance after high school."
Dance academy has been in business since 1991 and has six assistant teachers and roughly 85 dancers.
