Raiders capture nightcap on road vs. Rock Springs

The split puts Riverton at 9-9 overall. The Raiders are 3-1 in their conference.

Steven Reinig and Brayden Draper kept Rock Springs in check in the nightcap on Wednesday to complete a 7-4 victory for the Riverton Raiders in an American Legion baseball doubleheader.

Rock Springs defeated the Raiders 6-3 in the opener. The doubleheader was played at Rock Springs.

The split puts Riverton at 9-9 overall.

The Raiders are 3-1 in conference with all four games coming vs. Rock Springs. Riverton is 10-10 on the season.

"It's huge to go on the road and get a split like that," Riverton manager Brady Beers said.

Draper started out on the hill in the second game and went three innings. Rock Springs scored three runs off Draper.

"We just needed Brayden to give us two or three innings, so we can keep some arms fresh for this weekend," Beers said.

After the third inning, Reinig pitched the rest of the contest.

The right-hander allowed one run, while the Raiders picked up an additional four to seal the win.

For Riverton's offense, Ryan Axthelm belted out a triple and double. Reinig helped himself out with two hits at the plate.

Axthelm pitched the entire seven-inning game in the opener throwing 107 pitches.

"Ryan threw a lot more strikes than he had all season," Beers said. "He was also getting ground balls."

Nick Blume was the winning pitcher for the visiting team. Blume is the ace on the Rock Springs team.

"We gave ourself every chance to win the game.

It just didn't work out," Beers said.

Rock Springs scored two runs in the first inning and two more in the second.

In the bottom of the sixth, Rock Springs put up two more runs.

At the plate for the Raiders, Bailey Myers and Baylor Beers had two hits apiece.

Powell tournament

Riverton heads to Powell for a three-day tournament.

The Raiders begin the event at 1 p.m. Friday vs. Cody.

Riverton takes on Douglas at 9 a.m. Saturday. The Raiders close out pool play with the Billings (Mont.) Halos.

The championship game is scheduled for Sunday.
