Sheridan protests new airline pilot requirements; subsidy announced

Jun 24, 2014 - The Associated Press

Sara Bowman defeated Sydney Gunn on the second playoff hole Sunday to win the 92nd Wyoming women's amateur title.

Bowman is from Sheridan. Gunn will be a senior this fall at Cody High School.

The 54-hole tournament was played at the Riverton County Club.

Gunn and Bowman both recorded a par on the first playoff on hole No. 1.

On the second extra hole, Gunn lipped out her 18-foot birdie putt. Bowman sand her birdie putt and won her second state amateur title in a row.

"We flight the ladies based off their handicaps," Wyoming golf association official Dave Snyder said. "They are playing with people with similar ability."

Snyder felt golf fans couldn't have asked for a better end to the tournament.

"It was a great finish," Snyder said. "You would expect Sarah to be right up there."

Gunn has won the last two Class 3-A state individual high school titles.

"Sydney has had stellar play this last year," Snyder said.

Bowman had three gross scores of 78, 74 and 80 for a total of 232. Gunn came up with scores of 77, 74 and 81 for a 232.

"I was pleased the scores from the ladies," Snyder said. "We had a lot of ladies get in the 70s."

Evanston's Kalle Lunsford had a gross score of 72 on the second to put her in the final group on Sunday. Lunsford's two other scores were 81 and 85 for a 238 total.

The next big Wyoming golf association tournament is the men's mid-amateur July 4-6 in Green River.

"The field should be pretty tight," Snyder said. "In the men's field, there are so many good players. Anybody can win that."
