Jun 27, 2014 - By Bruce Tippets, Sports EditorA heavy downpour Thursday afternoon postponed the Riverton Raiders American Legion baseball conference doubleheader vs. Green River.
Green River had a 1-0 lead after the top of the first inning when the rain hit Roy Peck Field.
Riverton checked into the doubleheader with a 10-14 mark overall, 3-1 in conference play.
"We were optimistic that we would be able to sweep Green River because they were short-handed," Riverton manager Brady Beers said.
Green River arrived with just nine players.
The two games are rescheduled for Tuesday, July, 8, at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Riverton takes on Evanston at noon Saturday in another conference doubleheader at Roy Peck Field.
After the Evanston games, Riverton travels to Lovell on Monday for a doubleheader.
The Raiders play Tuesday at Cody for one A game and one B game.
The B game will have the younger players compete against each other.
Riverton returns to the diamond on Monday, July 7, for a doubleheader with Cody.
"You play a lot of games in two months when you play Legion baseball," Beers said. "It's just something that you have to deal with."
