Popovici, from Piatra Neamt, Romania, went 2-0 last weekend as Wyoming closed out the regular season with a 5-2 victory over Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colo. Positioned at the top of the singles lineup, Popovici earned the third point of the day for the Cowgirls with a straight set win (6-0, 6-2) over Melissa Cecil. Earlier in the dual, Popovici and teammate Simona Synkova rallied from a 4-1 deficit against Cecil and Tahlia Smoke, winning seven of the next nine games to win the match, 8-6, at the No. 1 doubles spot.
Popovici is currently 19-13 overall in singles and 20-9 with doubles partner Simona Synkova. She finished conference action with a 3-4 singles mark and 4-3 in doubles action.
The Cowgirls are currently 13-8 overall, while finishing the Mountain West season 5-2 and tied for second place. They will begin play at the conference championships tomorrow, April 26, in San Diego. Wyoming will take on the Air Force Academy Falcons beginning at 11:00 a.m. MT.
