CHEYENNE -- Plans to build new academic buildings at the University of Wyoming are moving forward.

Design and construction plans for the Engineering Building and the High Bay Research Facility have been approved, and Gov. Matt Mead has released money to UW for the buildings.

The High Bay Research Facility will house labs for large-scale experiments that exceed the capacity of a traditional engineering laboratory.

UW's research capacity in strategic energy areas will be enhanced by this addition.

The Engineering Building project involves major renovation and expansion of existing facilities.

The university has accepted in principle a long-range plan to develop the College of Engineering into a "top tier" program nationally, meaning it would rank among the top 25 such programs in the nation.
