Fillies dominate play over Lady Wolverines

May 1, 2012 - By Craig Blumenshine, Staff Writer

The Casper Natrona Fillies (8-3-1, 7-1-1 Class 4-A West) clinched the Class 4-A West regular season championship Monday night at Wolverine Field with an easy 6-0 win over the Riverton Lady Wolverines ( 4-3-1 Class 4-A West, 6-5-1) .

The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for Riverton.

Natrona scored two goals in the first eight minutes of the match. It was never close after that. Riverton struggled to mount any kind of offensive attack.

"We just put this put this one behind us and move on. We didn't play well. We gifted them three goals in the first half, and we didn't adjust. We couldn't think our way through what they were doing passing," head coach Rick Bergstedt said.

Like the Riverton boys team, the Lady Wolverines still have an outside chance to get a second seed for their regional tournament and an automatic bid to state.

RHS will need two wins in the final home matches against Green River and Evanston this Friday and Saturday at Wolverine field. Riverton beat both teams on the road earlier this season.

Also, Riverton will need some help to get the two seed and will hope that Natrona can beat Casper Kelly Walsh on Thursday.

"We still have some control over what goes on, and we need to be conscious of that," Bergstedt said.
