AAU volleyball teams come to Riverton

Riverton AAU spikers win age title at tournament

The Stunners played their way to a AAU volleyball tournament title in Riverton on Saturday in the U16/18 division.

Kristen Bailey, Lindsey Harris, Kaitlin Koehn, Ashley Lynott, Haley Snell, Kylee Trees and Bree Olson played on the Riverton team.

The coaches for the Stunners were Karley Trees and Cindy Harris.

Harris is the Riverton AAU club president.

"The Stunners play well together," coach Harris said. "They have played together since they were in the sixth-grade."

In the championship match, Riverton knocked off a Casper team 25-17, 25-23.

"It was a good win for us," Harris said.

The Committed (Riverton) and the Slammin and Jammin (Riverton) tied for third in the U16/U18 division. There were nine teams in the oldest division of the tournament. The Committed were coached by Kevin Lynott.

Sadee Lewis was the head coach for Slammin and Jammin.

Teams played two games to 25 in pool play. The matches were best two out of three to 25 in bracket play.

The tournament had 51 teams in different age groups.

The divisions for the tournament were U12, U14 and U18. The U12 had a gold, silver and bronze bracket. Every other division had a gold and silver bracket.

Harris said Sheila Caines deserved a lot of the credit for

helping run the tournament.

"We had a good turnout," Harris said. "Overall, the tournament was a large success. The girls had a lot of fun."

Younger teams

In the U12 A division, the Crockadowndillies placed second in the gold bracket. Jeni Mason coached the squad.

The Upsets coached by Heather Becker and Brittany Yeates were second in the U12 B silver bracket.

The Triple Threats finished fifth in the U12 A bracket. Joy Pettit and Shanda Skaggs were the coaches.

The Spikers placed third in the U14 A field silver bracket. Brandi Eisemann was the head coach. The Riverton Ice finished first in the U12 bronze bracket. Ty Caines coached the team.

All the Riverton teams will take part in the district tournament on Saturday in Casper.

"It's the end of the season tournament," Harris said. "We have a large number of girls that came out for AAU volleyball this year."

Team Committed (U16/18) -- Sydney Lynott, Courtney Olson, Agate Gamble, Jill Smartt, Janis Lawson, Kenisha Mueller.

Upsets (U12 B) -- Sophie Lopez, Gabi Vincent, Demi Stauffenberg, Alexxis Motisi, Taci Wilson, Taylor Larsen, Kelsi Yorgason, Mattea Hernandez, Mackenzie Baker)

Crocadowndillies (U12 A) -- Julia Masson, Morgan Masson, Ella Hauck, Sath Ta Prue, Skyler Smith, Bailei Schneider, Celeste Ashdown, Kayla Robinson, Hannah Robinson, Courtney Condie.

Riverton Ice (U12 B) -- Angel Burson, Britney Dwyer, Shandy Moore, Katelyn Sanders, Samantaha Gauder, Ciera Peck.
