Tyler Graham saved his best 300-meter hurdles race for his last one at Wolverine Track to win the Class 4-A West regional title Saturday.

The Riverton High School senior started out fast in the exhausting hurdle race and held off the other seven athletes for the victory.

"I wanted the 300-meter hurdles race so bad," Graham said. "I just finally went around the corner until I didn't see anyone from the left or right of me."

Graham was clocked with a personal best time of 40.67 in finals.

"I haven't placed really high in the 300-meter hurdles before," Graham said.

"This year, I wanted to get on

the podium."

Hannah Svilar (shot put and discus ) and Jillian C'Bearing (3,200 meters and 800 meters) were double regional title winners for the RHS girls.

In the girls team standings, the Wolverines were fifth with 73 points.

Kelly Walsh took command early of the team race to win the regional title (234). Rock Springs finished second (115).

The RHS boys finished fifth with 59 points. Casper Natrona won the regional title (186 points) and Kelly Walsh finished second (162).

The top eight athletes in the individual events qualify for the Class 4-A state meet Thursday through Saturday in Casper. The top four relays locked up spots for state.

Two titles

"I was in lane five, so I couldn't see Zach Huber (of Green River) behind me," Graham said. "My first goal was to keep ahead of him so I wouldn't see him."

Kelly Walsh's Joey Czellecz placed second (40.95) and Huber was third (41.34).

"I can now go into state kind of relaxed," Graham said. "I have the potential to go mid-40s and probably even 39s."

Graham opened the two-day regional track meet winning the long jump in 21-0.75.

"It was a little shaky at the beginning," Graham said.

"I scratched two jumps, I moved back to get a mark. I have gotten higher, but that is above average for me."

Evanston's Matt Eddington landed second (20-3.50).

"I hadn't seen Matt Eddington all year," Graham said.

"He put up some good competition. He scared me a little bit."

Graham added a third-place in the 110-meter hurdles (16.70).

Svilar wins

"It feels pretty cool to win two regional titles," Svilar said. "They weren't my best throws, but they were still good enough to get first."

In the shot put, Svilar won the regional title in a toss of 39-9.75. Svilar's teammate Hannah Soll finished seventh (32-9.50)

"I didn't do as well as I should have done in the shot put, or could have done," Svilar said. "It was an OK toss."

Svilar had the No. 1 throw in the discus at 124-0, and Soll was fourth 111-2.

"I wanted to make it to the 130s," Svilar said. "I was doing that in warm-ups, but then the competition came, and I don't know what happened."

C'Bearing claims pair

C'Bearing started the meet on Friday by crushing the 800 meters field in the first individual event at Wolverine Track.

C'Bearing ran past the 800-meters field in a time of 2:22.71.

C'Bearing followed up the performance winning the 3,200 meters (11:36.25).

The RHS sophomore ended the meet taking third in the 1,600 meters (5:27.84). In the race, C'Bearing had the lead for the majority of the time, but couldn't hold off Krali Piaia from Rock Springs (5:20.50).
