Chiefs roll to 44-point win

Feb 13, 2012 - By Randy Tucker Staff Writer

If it had been a horserace the Kemmerer Rangers would have got stuck in the starting gate.

Wyoming Indian High School walloped the Rangers 102-58 at home Friday night behind a 33-point first period that featured six 3-pointers and 24 points by senior guard John Soundingsides.

Soundingsides had another phenomenal outing in his stellar career, finishing the contest with 11 3-pointers and 45 points -- playing only a minute of the fourth quarter.

The Chiefs completed a sweep over the southern schools in the league Saturday with a 67-45 win over Big Piney.

WIHS was all over Kemmerer in the opening minutes, building a huge lead quickly in transition on steals and layups along with the long-range barrage from Soundingsides.

On most nights, hitting four 3-pointers gets you top billing in nearly every game in the state, but not on a team with a shooter like Soundingsides.

Junior Alvin Spoonhunter hit four treys in the contest but his outstanding shooting was overshadowed by Soundingsides.

In all, four Wyoming Indian players hit double figures, with Joey Aragon and Wilson Clifford scoring 10 each in addition to Spoonhunter's dozen and the 45 from Soundingsides.

Kemmerer recovered in the second quarter and played even with Wyoming Indian but the score was still doubled at the half 54-27.

A 30-point third period put the exclamation point on the game and Wyoming Indian head coach Craig Ferris began to substitute liberally, playing much of the final period with reserves on the floor. Soundingsides had 42 points at the end of the third quarter.
