Jun 6, 2012 - UW Sports InformationLARAMIE, Wyo.-(June 6, 2012)-Wyoming Cowboy golfer Jake Hedge is the 2012 recipient of the 14th-annual Michael Phillips Memorial Scholarship.
The scholarship is dedicated to former Cowboy golfer Michael Phillips, who was killed in a car accident while he was attending graduate school at Penn State University. It covers the full cost of an athletic scholarship and is given to a UW golfer each academic year. The scholarship is awarded in his honor at the Sheridan Cowboy Joe Club golf tournament which is also named the Michael Phillips Memorial Tournament.
"This scholarship is given in Michael's honor to a worthy student-athlete who has excelled both academically and athletically," Wyoming Director of Golf Joe Jensen said. "Jake is a terrific representative for this scholarship. He is a great student, teammate and golfer. I am very happy he was given this scholarship."
Hedge, a native of Billings, Mont., completed his first season with the Cowboys in 2011-12. He carried the fourth-best stroke average on the team of 75.76. He recorded two top-12 finishes including a seventh-place finish at the Nevada Wolf Pack Classic. At the Cowboy Classic he fired a career-best four-under 66 on his way to tying for 11th place.
