CWC Lady Rustlers drop rare Sunday game to Air Force Prep, 6

Air Force Prep outlasted Central Wyoming College 62-55 in a overtime victory in a rare Sunday afternoon women's basketball game at Rustler Gym.

In the extra period, Air Force Prep outscored the Rustlers 12-5 to claim the win.

"Our ladies gave a good effort. We just were not able to get that last stop at the end of regulation. Then the momentum changed and we could not get back on top," CWC coach Serol Stauffenberg said.

CWC was coming off a 68-65 setback to Sheridan College on Saturday night at Rustler Gym.

The Rustlers started the three-game homestand on Wednesday beating Western Wyoming College in a double-overtime game. CWC now stands at 11-13 on the season.

A.F. Prep 62, CWC 55

The Rustlers opened the game with a 31-22 cushion after the first 20 minutes. Behind the play of Erica Norwood, the momentum changed for Air Force Prep, which knotted the game at the end of regulation at 50-50.

Air Fore Prep took control of the overtime period and never looked back.

Norwood tallied 29 points in the seven-point victory. She was 15-18 from the line and had four 3-pointers.

Samantha Fender also reached double figures with 21 points.

Courtney Patterson paced CWC with 21 points, and Brynn Foster scored nine.

Brynlie Nielsen pulled in 15 rebounds and scored five points. Nielsen had 11 defensive rebounds and four offensive rebounds.

Road trip

The Rustlers begin a two-game Region IX North road trip Thursday at Miles Community College.

CWC plays Gillette College on Saturday. Both games are at 5:30 p.m.

CWC sits in seventh place in the conference standings with a 4-8 record. Miles is fifth at 5-6, and Gillette College is fourth at 7-4.

Casper College is 11-1, Sheridan College has a 10-1 record, and Western Wyoming is 8-4.

The top eight teams from the North qualify for the Region IX tournament.

The winner of the North division will host the Region IX tournament in March.
