Cash stolen from store after owner forgot bag

Jun 15, 2012 - By Joshua Scheer, Staff Writer

Riverton police are looking for two women who might have knowledge about a bag containing approximately $1,000 that was taken from Walmart Wednesday.

Capt. Eric Murphy said in a news release that the owner of the Subway restaurant inside Walmart took the deposits for the day from the restaurant and carried it with him in a money bag while he shopped in the store.

"He went through the checkout line and forgot the money bag with the deposit in the shopping cart and came back to Walmart about 30 minutes later and found the bag was gone," Murphy said.

RPD received the call at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday.

"Walmart Security viewed their security cameras and observed two females leaving Walmart with the money bag," Murphy said.

RPD has released three photos from the security footage that depicts two women who appear to be Caucasian wearing white tank tops near the Walmart front doors adjacent to Subway. The footage was taken between 10:44 and 10:54 a.m.

The camera on the store roof that would have given RPD vehicle information was not functioning at the time.

In a follow-up interview, Murphy said that after viewing the footage he sent a detective to the casino to look for the two women, but no contact was made.

Murphy is seeking information about these women.

Since the release of the photos, no one has contacted RPD with information.

"I'm thinking maybe they were passing through or something," he said.

Murphy clarified that the women are wanted for questioning only.

"They're not suspects at this time," he said.

Anyone with information about the two women is asked to contact Murphy at 857-7610.
