From staff reports

Tanner Simpson of Lander and Mikayla Brower of Torrington have been named winners of the 2012 Milward Simpson Award.

The award is presented annually to Wyoming's most outstanding male and female high school senior athletes. It is named in the honor of Milward Simpson, the former Wyoming Governor and U.S. Senator.

Tanner Simpson earned 10 athletic letters and was named to six all-conference and six all-state teams in football, basketball and track. Simpson, the Fremont County football player of the year, holds every major receiving record at Lander Valley High School and played for the North team in this year's Shrine Bowl. Simpson will attend the University of Wyoming as a preferred football walk-on.

Brower earned 12 varsity letters, nine all-conference and seven all-state awards in four sports -- basketball, soccer, tennis and track and field. Brower was selected to play in both the Wyoming-South Dakota and Wyoming-Montana basketball all-star games and will attend Western Nebraska Community College on a basketball scholarship.
