Spratt cousins, Nicholls shine at state HS rodeo

Three high school rodeo state titles were won by Fremont County athletes on Sunday in Douglas.

Coralee Spratt of Shoshoni captured the state championship in goat tying. Spratt graduated from Shoshoni High School in May.

Riverton High School incoming senior Coley Nicholls won the top buckle in the team roping competition. His partner was Garrett Grieve from Baggs.

Shoshoni's K.L. Spratt brought home the girls all-around title. Grieve took the boys all-around buckle.

K.L. Spratt and Coralee Spratt are cousins.

The top four in each event now qualify for the National High School Finals Rodeo July 15-21 in Rock Springs.

Girls

Coralee Spratt put together 226 points during the regular season on her way to the state title. Jaime Thompson from Whitney, Neb., placed second with 196 points.

Rozet's Emily Faber was third in 186 points, and Shai Schaefer of Torrington ended second at 176.5 points.

In the breakaway roping competition, Deena Norell of Meeker, Colo., finished first, scoring 208 points. Spratt was second (193 points). K.L. Spratt placed fifth (142).

In team roping, K.L. Spratt and Logan Milligan from Torrington finished third with 242 points to qualify for the NHSFR.

Teal Stoll of Pavillion qualified for the national finals in a pair of events.

Stoll placed second in pole bending chalking up 231 points. Breanna Reimler from Buffalo scored 242 points for the title.

In barrel racing, Stoll finished third at 171.5 points. Cassidy Kruse from Gillette won the title in 197 points.

Riverton's Shelby Eckley finished second in girls cutting (193.5 points).

Boys

Nicholls and Grieve clicked from the start of the rodeo season back in September to run away from the rest of the team roping competition.

The pair finished the season with 367 points. Jayden Johnson from Casper and Klay Ready from Dixon were second (253).

Wind River's Drew Antone finished second in steer wrestling (203 points) and fourth in bull riding (114 points) to clinch his spots for the NHSFR.
