Thanks to community, kids

Editor:

I have had the honor and privilege to teach band at Riverton Middle School and Riverton High School for the last six years. This has been a great place to raise my young family and have our twins. We have had great neighbors, been a part of a great church group, and made lifelong friends. I just wanted to take a moment to point out some of the outstanding things that have made an enormous impact on my family and me.

Main Street Dance has been my daughter's home away from home. Ms. Regan has inspired a lifelong passion in this little girl and has provided an opportunity for her to work on individual skills while being a part of something bigger than herself. It is also very neat to watch my band students grow in dance and be a part of success in a different medium. Thank you, Regan, for what you do for this community.

Our schools are fantastic We truly have great teachers in Fremont SD 25. My kids have not had anything but great things to say about all of their teachers. They have learned so much and have been guided in a loving way. Thanks to the teachers at Aspen Park and Rendezvous for inspiring my kids.

I have been consistently amazed at the time, effort, and dedication that the RMS staff has put into providing the best possible education for its students. Coming from an inside perspective, the RMS staff truly cares about the success and happiness of each student they serve. Cheryl Mowry is absolutely the best administrator I have ever worked with. She is student-centered and is passionate about creating an environment where the whole child can thrive.

Band is an important part of the school. and Mrs. Mowry has made it easy for band kids to be successful at RMS through her undying support. Thanks to the staff at RMS for accepting me as one of your own and inspiring kids daily.

We have great educational leadership. Dr. Terry Snyder has a very organized and specific plan of action to make School District 25 the best that it can be. He is a great leader and has inspired me to be a better teacher even in the single year I had the opportunity to work for him.

We have a great school board that is faced with many tough decisions but takes on each one with the kids' best interest in mind.

We also have some of the best facilities and equipment in the state due to the financial support and fiscal management of our superintendent and the board. Thank you Fremont School District 25. (Side note: Please support Dr. Snyder in his efforts to get District 25 an auditorium. The kids need that space.)

The Mercer family has taken great care of my family's health with not only expertise but with genuine kindness and love. Dr. John Mercer delivered our twins and helped our family through the physical and emotional strain of bringing two babies into this world. His bedside manner is "off the charts" good and always made my wife feel comfortable and important.

Dr. Tara Mercer has been my kids' doctor and has as good of a personal and bedside approach as her husband. She helped my oldest (and her parents) through a very scary and rare illness with such an incredible amount of patience, information, expertise, and compassion. Thank you Dr. Mercer(s) you are true assets to this community.

The Little League program in Riverton is amazing. It is so fun to bring my family down to the ball fields and enjoy the atmosphere of the great American pastime. My boys had great coaches and had an absolute blast being part of baseball for the last two years. Thank you to all of the people who make Little League baseball possible.

Last, but certainly not least. Thanks to my band kids. You all have meant a great deal to me, and I have enjoyed every note we have shared together. I have enjoyed every laugh, every smile, every drop of sweat, and every tear.

Please keep making music. You all have come so far. Take music into your adult lives and share the passion you have learned with your children and your grandchildren. Give the new teacher your respect and trust that teacher to take you to new and possibly different places than we went together. Different is hard sometimes, but it is necessary for growth.

I don't know what forces prompted me to take the band job in Buffalo, but I know what ever it was will help me grow. Riverton will always have a place in my heart. Go Big Red! Thanks for the memories.
