Feb 16, 2012 - StaffCecil Edward (Ward) Appleby, 48, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, in his home.
Mr. Appleby lived and worked in Colorado Springs, Colo. He was born Nov. 6, 1962, to Edward R. Jr. and Jeanne Appleby. His childhood was spent in Lander where he enjoyed the freedoms and benefits of small-town life.
Mr. Appleby was a jack of all trades and traveled far and wide in the pursuit of learning them. He enjoyed working with his hands, whether it be building a deck or restoring the stock of a classic rifle. He possessed a healthy sense of humor and knew the value of a good joke. He always went his own way, always led more than he followed, and was always there to support a friend.
Mr. Appleby was loved, and he will be missed. He loved the high country surrounding Lander and always wanted to have his remains scattered among the wild things there.
Survivors include his friend and companion of 22 years, Cherie Updyke, his mother, Jeanne Poirot, brothers Wade, Dave and Clay and numerous other family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward R. Appleby Jr.
The family will be hosting a memorial service on the mountain to be announced at a later date. Cards can be sent to Jeanne Poirot at 165 Pushroot Court, Apartment 5, Lander, WY 82520.
