County gets three runner-up finishes at 2-A wrestling

SHOSHONI -- Three Fremont County wrestlers finished second on Saturday at the Class 2-A West regional tournament at Shoshoni High School.

The Dubois tandem of Sterling Baker (182 pounds) and Cody Flynn (195), and heavyweight Shoshoni wrestler Dalton Linnan will take a No. 2 seed into the state tournament this Friday and Saturday in Casper.

In the regional race in Shoshoni, Lovell won the team trophy, rolling up 202.50 points in the two-day tournament. Cokeville placed second (182 points), and Riverside/Greybull (135 points) came in third.

Second placers

At 182 pounds, Baker opened his march toward a spot in the finals with victories over Wyoming Indian's Gabriel Spoonhunter and Ethan Archibald (Kemmerer). The two wins were by pins. In the finals, Dino Collins of Lovell escaped in a 5-2 victory over Baker. In the 195-pound weight bracket, Flynn pinned Dakota Falk (Hanna) and Eli Moody (Lovell). Brigham Hopkin (Cokeville) edged Flynn 8-6 for the title.

Linnan moved into the heavyweight finals after pinning Wind River's Charles Oldman in a time of 1:36. In the semifinals, Linnan fought for three periods to pull out a 5-3 win against Lovell's Jacob Asay. Justin Irene (Hanna) made it a short match by pinning Linnan in 48 seconds in the finals.
