RHS girls get good looks but fall to Kelly Walsh

Feb 20, 2012 - By Craig Blumenshine Staff Writer

RIVERTON -- The Riverton Lady Wolverines managed only four field goals and shot just 10 percent from the field in a 49-17 Saturday home loss to the Casper Kelly Walsh Lady Trojans.

Riverton falls to 1-21 overall and 0-8 in Class 4-A West conference play.

"We got good shots over and over, but they wouldn't go," head coach Ron Porter said, recognizing that if his team had shot near

50 percent, the game could have gone either way.

Riverton attempted 39 shots from the field, making just four.

Lady Wolverine Sheridan Smith continued her positive progression and scored nine to lead Riverton.

The Lady Wolverines have two conference home games remaining, including a Tuesday matchup with Green River that begins at 5 p.m., and a Saturday contest against Evanston.

The Lady Wolverines are looking forward to hosting the Class 4-A West regional tournament March 1-3 in Wolverine Gym. Boys and girls teams from Riverton, Rock Springs, Evanston, Green River, Casper Kelly Walsh and Casper Natrona will play in the tournament.

The RHS girls will have to win their first game, likely against Evanston or Casper Kelly Walsh, in order to advance to the state tournament.
