Janice M. Aadland

Former Lander resident Janice M. Aadland, 74, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, in Roslyn, S.D.

Janice Marguriete Hanson was born June 15, 1937, to John and Marjorie (Thone) Hanson at Peabody Hospital in Webster, S.D. She was baptized and confirmed at Roslyn Lutheran Church.

She grew up in Roslyn and graduated from Roslyn High School in 1955. She then attended business school in Watertown and worked at a law firm there.

On Dec. 14, 1956, she married Orlin Aadland in Roslyn, S.D. After their marriage, the couple farmed near Pierpont, S.D. In 1969, they moved to Lander where she worked in medical records and was office manager for an optometrist.

They returned to the farm near Pierpont, S.D., in 1975 and worked for Security Bank in Roslyn, S.D., managed the Blue Denim in Eden, S.D., and worked for Dakotah, Inc. in Veblen, S.D., until her retirement in 1994.

Her husband, Orlin, passed away April 1990, and after his death, she returned to Roslyn, S.D. In September 2002, she entered Sun Dial Manor in Bristol, S.D., for a short time, and then moved to Strand-Kjorsvig Rest Home in Roslyn, S.D.

She was a member of Skudesnes Lutheran Church near Pierpont, S.D. She loved gardening, sewing, canning (especially hot green beans), crocheting, knitting and collecting swans. In her younger years, she made cakes for many special occasions and weddings.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Aadland and wife Beth of Pierpont, S.D., and Jay Aadland and wife Mary of Webster, S.D.; daughter Carol Reed and husband Dana of Casper; sisters Shirley Smith of Lander, Sheila VanMeter and husband Gary of Sheridan and Nancy Rinn of Casper; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers.
