Tribal election season starting

The Wind River Indian Reservation tribes are preparing for their upcoming election seasons that will determine Business Council members and those serving on other elected boards.

The Eastern Shoshone Tribe is accepting candidate applications until Sept. 4 for the Business Council and Entertainment Committee.

Applications are available at #37 Norkok Road in Fort Washakie, west of the Wind River Police Department, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. and 3 to 7 p.m. on weekdays.

Candidates must be enrolled members of the Shoshone Tribe 25 or older to serve on the Business Council. Entertainment Committee candidates must be enrolled tribal members 18 or older.

The Northern Arapaho Tribe will start accepting candidate letters of interest for the Business Council, Tribal Committee and Economic Development Committee starting on Aug. 15.

Candidates must be an enrolled member of the Northern Arapaho Tribe who is 18 or older. They also must reside within the exterior boundaries of the Wind River Indian Reservation for at least the last two years.

Candidates must file their notice of intent to seek election with the Northern Arapaho Business Council secretary by Sept. 15.

Candidates must pay a $150 filing fee and submit drug-testing results and a tribal debt-free statement with their notice. The filing fee must be cash, money order or cashier's check.

Election officials encourage candidates to not send cash in the mail, and they will not accept personal checks.

Submit notices to the tribe at the Northern Arapaho Tribal Complex, 533 Ethete Road in Ethete, between 8 a.m. and noon and from 1 to 4:45 p.m. on weekdays. Candidates can mail them to P.O. Box 396, Fort Washakie, WY 82514.
