LANDER -- A fast start Monday afternoon sparked St. Stephen's in the Class 1-A West regional girls basketball play-in game, lifting them a 80-43 victory over Hanna Elk Mountain at Bob Carey Memorial Fieldhouse.

The Lady Miners only dressed seven players in the game and saw a third player foul out at the 1:18 mark left in the third period as St. Stephen's was up 55-32.

Four on the floor

Hanna played with four players the rest of the way as St. Stephen's outscored its opponent 19-8 in the fourth quarter.

"I commend Hanna for the girls that they did have," St. Stephen's girls coach Tova Harjo said.

St. Stephen's entered the postseason as the No. 4 seed from the Northwest, and Hanna was the No. 5 seed from the Southwest.

The reward now for the Eagles is to play Little Snake River (No. 1 seed/Southwest) in a 3:40 p.m. opening round on Thursday at Bob Carey Memorial Fieldhouse.

The winner of the game plays 7:30 p.m. on Friday in one of the semifinals between the winner of Ten Sleep (No. 2 seed/Northwest) and Farson-Eden (No. 3/Ten Sleep). The consolation game is set for 11:40 a.m. on Friday.

The story of the game was St. Stephen's hitting four 3-pointers in the first period and building a 19-8 lead.

Marcel Oldman had a pair of 3-pointers, Jamay Blackburn and Uriah Addison had one.

"We have been doing a bunch of shooting drills in practice to get our girls going," Harjo said. "I told them to shoot as much as you can."

In the second quarter, Oldman swished another 3-pointer. Shacyria Edmo scored four points in the second quarter, and she pulled in several rebounds.

"I think that we came out very strong," Harjo said. "We executed our press."

Blackburn had an offensive breakout in the third quarter with five field goals and one 3-pointer as the Eagles pulled away from the Miners.

"All of our girls stepped up," Harjo said.

Blackburn led the attack with 21 points. Oldman (16 points), Addison (13 points) and Edmo (11) all scored in double figures.

"Shacyria has been a really big difference for our team," Harjo said. "When we didn't have her, we didn't have our inside game. Now that she is playing again, we are a stronger unit that what we were before."
