Aug 28, 2012 - By Christina George, Staff WriterFire crews countywide responded to a rural Lander home Monday afternoon after a barn caught fire.
Lander Rural Fire Department chief Dave Peevey said firefighters from his agency, Lander City Volunteer, Fort Washakie, Hudson, Riverton's Battalion 1 and the Bureau of Land Management were called to the fire at 1950 Squaw Creek Road and Shimmer Drive outside Lander at about 3:45 p.m. Monday.
"When I got on scene it was fully engulfed," Peevey said. "It did spot across the Squaw Creek Road and started a grass fire on the other side of the road, but it was put out pretty quickly."
Peevey said flames did not damage the house near the barn.
"There was little damage to the rear of the camper that was by the barn and a little damage to their boat, but the homeowner was able to get it out of the way pretty quickly," he said.
The barn and its contents were a total loss, Peevey said.
Firefighters remained on scene until 6:30 p.m. Peevey said there were no injuries, and the cause is under investigation.
