Festival of the Cowboys coming to Crowheart

The fourth annual Festival of the Cowboys will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, at Big Wind Hall at 33 Old Yellowstone Highway in Crowheart.

The western arts and crafts fair features local artisans including Nancy Brown making rope horse halters and Marlyn Hindman demonstrating precious metal clay jewelry.

Hindman will present a special class at 3:30 p.m. in the lunchroom at Big Wind Hall on the finer points of her craft.

Complimentary booth space is available for arts and crafts vendors. Vendors are encouraged to provide demonstrations of their crafts and to sell their items.

Booth setup begins at 10 a.m., and the craft fair runs until 8 p.m.

A limited number of tables and chairs are available on a first-call basis. Call Jane at (307) 486-2238 to reserve space.

The cowboy music show featuring local musicians will run in conjunction with the craft fair. All musicians and cowboy poets are invited to share their talents during the open microphone and jam sessions from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

At noon, the ranch rodeo will begin in the arena west of Big Wind Hall. The entry deadline is Sept. 1. To enter, call Katie Jo Becker at (307) 486-5002.

The Dutch oven dessert cookoff will be judged at 4:30 p.m. Contestants will prepare a dessert in their own Dutch oven. Everyone is invited to participate.

A silent auction will run until 7 p.m. Other events will include horseshoe pitching, kids' activities and a chicken-drop contest.

The Bread Wagon, Jeff & Feff's Catering and Barbecue, and Bill Trollinger Dutch Oven Cobbler will serve cowboy chow from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
