RHS ends the regular season Thursday and Friday at the Green River Invitational.

Riverton High School golfer Lars Becker fired a career-low Thursday and Friday at the Rock Springs Invitational golf tournament.

Becker, a junior, led the Wolverines in rounds of 84 and 77 for a 161. The score didn't place him in the top 10.

"Lars had his best varsity tournament," RHS coach Lars Flanagan said. "He relaxed a little bit when he made an error. It wasn't a life-ending experience for him. He moved on to the next hole, which is a great thing for any golfer to do."

Teammate Preston Ward put in scores of 78 and 81 for a 179. Aaron Nirider come home with rounds of 82-81--164.

"Preston had a good little tournament expect for two of the last four holes," Flanagan said. "He put up big numbers on those two holes."

Jordan Yowell (88-89--177) and Ryan Axthelm (88-87--175) rounded out the RHS scores.

"Ryan and Jordan both are improving," Flanagan said. "Jordan had one big number or his score would have been in the mid-80s."

The Wolverines finished fifth in the team standings at 658. Kelly Walsh won the team race in 601. Cheyenne East placed second (622).

"This is as strong as a tournament field we have seen this year," Flanagan said.

The tournament had 12 teams in the field. Gillette and Sheridan were the only Class 4-A teams not there.

Aschenbrenner 10th

Riverton's Whitney Aschenbrenner finished 10th in the girls individual race at 96-93--189.

The Wolverines placed fourth in the team standings by shooting a 600.

Kelly Walsh won the team title (539). Casper Natrona finished second (544) and Cheyenne East was third (588).

RHS ends the regular season Thursday and Friday at the Green River Invitational.

Green River, Rock Springs, RHS and Evanston will make up the four-team tournament. The golfers will play a match-play format.

All those teams play in the Class 4-A West conference.

Younger golfers

Flanagan sent five RHS golfers to the Cody-Powell Invitational tournament Thursday and Friday.

"It was a good opportunity for those guys to go out and play in a varsity tournament," Flanagan said. "They are better golfers than they showed in Cody. It was a good experience for them."

The young golfers played against Class 3-A teams.

The tournament was played on the Cody course one day and the Powell course the other day.

Riverton's Oakley Hackleman paced the Wolverines with scores of 90-84--174.
