Mary Lucille Willow

Mary L. Willow died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at her home following a lengthy illness. She was 83 years old.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at St. Stephens Mission with the Catholic clergy officiating. A rosary and wake will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at the Grace Willow residence, No. 626 Ethete Road, Ethete. Interment will be in the St. Stephens Catholic Cemetery at St. Stephens.

Mary Lucille Willow was born July 15, 1929, in Nebo, the daughter of the late Neroy and Annie Elkins Friday.

She was a lifelong resident of the Wind River Indian Reservation and attended school at Flandreau Indian School.

She married Ernest Willow Sr. on July 1, 1949, and was always by his side.

Her family said she enjoyed beading, sewing, quilting, playing bingo, racing horses when she was younger and attending powwows. She was a member of the War Bonnet Society, was a cook at the senior center and was a cook at the Arapaho Ranch for a number of years.

She is survived by children Grace, Ernest Jr., Douglas, Verna, Terry, Alfred Sr., Beverly, Wanda, Mavis, Alvera and Laverne Willow, Penny and Deland Robertson, Danelle and April Friday, Gary Simms, Lydell Whiteplume, Aaron Big Knife and Ryan Gambler; sisters Gladys Jefferson, Marion Coen, Sandra Shields, Lillian Chavez, Dorothy Pinney and Joyce Sell; brothers Al Willow, Bobby Joe and Eugene Goggles and Willie and Connie LeClair; grandchildren Loretta and Mitchell Warren Sr., Alana and Donovan Goodshield, Shawna and Arlyn Willow, Delin Dewey, Rita and Bo Brown, Tashina and Gaylen Track, Virgil Whiteman, Cheryl and Percy Headley, Ivy and David Robertson, Annie and Sydney Willow, Alta and Darrell Bell, Yvonne and Lagrand Charles, Alfred Jr., Allsha Wolf and Naroy Willow, Joel, Miken and Willow Wilson, Pvt. Ruben Quiver, Kayla and Vernon Hill, Tara and Valerie Brown, Gregory Trosper Jr., Ben Aragon, Ruben Track, D J, Ivora, Wendell, Teddy and John Moss; 101 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren Kena Monroe, Laraiya and Labron Brown.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ernest Willow Sr.; brothers Dan, Teddy, Louis, Ernest and Leonard Friday; sisters Ruth, Jane, Phyllis and Nina Friday; grandchildren Eli C'Bearing Moss, Shawna Dewey, Byron, Mike, Mary, Sonya and Jovon Willow.
