Hitshew, Tiger girls win titles at Star Valley tournament

Sep 11, 2012 - By Bruce Tippets, Sports Editor

Jordan Hitshew won her first golf tournament of the season Saturday at the Star Valley Invitational.

The Lander Valley High School senior had rounds of 86 and 83 for a two-day total of 169.

Paige Anderson from Star Valley finished second with scores of 100 and 86 for a 186.

Hitshew's teammate Shilo Lawrence finished fourth (99-96--195), and Janae Hudson placed sixth (98-104--202) in the individual standings.

"All the girls had their best weekend of the season," LVHS coach Terry Berg said. "The golf course was a short golf course. It was very positive for everyone. Jordan is swinging her club pretty well."

Berg said it was the first time Hudson had broken 100 in the regular season.

"All three did a really nice job," Berg said.

The Tigers won the girls title with a score of 566.

Star Valley placed second at 597, and Jackson came in third at 616.

LVHS boys

The LVHS boys finished second in the team standings shooting a 637.

The Tigers had a 307 on the first day and a 330 on the second day for a 637.

"We had a real nice day for the first day," Berg said. "The second day was not as good as we liked it."

Jackson won the title with 592. Star Valley was third at 650, and Pinedale came in fourth (716).

Lander's Levi Stuttle finished eighth (73-83--156) and Tyson Sollars was ninth (76-83--159).

Trey Massey won the junior varsity title with scores of 69 and 73 for a 142.

"Trey struggled last week in practice so he didn't make our varsity squad," Berg said.

"He played great in Star Valley."

Conference next

The Tigers play Friday and Saturday in Evanston at the Purple Sage Golf Course in the Class 3-A West conference meet. Lyman is putting on the 36-hole tournament.

Berg said the Jackson boys team is the favorite to win the team title.

"We know that the boys will have to play very well," Berg said.

The Cody girls are the front-runner, while LVHS is right behind.

"Cody has a real strong team," Berg said.
