Former Riverton resident Edna M. Wood, 96, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, in Boise, Idaho, surrounded by her family.
A celebration of life is at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at Daken Funeral Chapel in Caldwell, Idaho, with a reception following at CV Peckham Community Center, adjacent to Daken Chapel. Chaplain Bruce Juhl of Legacy Hospice officiates.
Private interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Caldwell.
There will be a viewing from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at the funeral home in Caldwell.
Edna May Dorothy Lund was born Aug. 22, 1915, in Sweetwater, Neb., one of six children born to Martin and May Lillie Lund.
She met Cecil Wood in 1932, and they were married April 6, 1933. A son, Robert Landreth Wood, was born to that union and 11 years later, in Riverton, a daughter, DeEtta May Wood, was born.
Mrs. Wood was active in the Riverton community, including her church where she was a deacon, a teacher, taught vacation Bible school and Bible study. She was also a member of the Red Cross. She started two 4-H clubs, the Busy 20 and the Snappy Six. She was also active in the Riding Club and Saddle Pals. While living on their 562-acre farm/ranch, she cooked for the hired men and did other farm chores. When they moved into town, she learned how to play golf to include making three holes-in-one, water ski and hosted many events for her husband.
The family moved to Casper where Mrs. Wood learned how to co-pilot their airplane. Following Casper, the couple moved to Caldwell, Idaho, where she bought and remodeled two houses. They then moved to Mesa, Ariz., where she was diagnosed with, and beat, cancer. In 1999, they moved back to Caldwell, Idaho, to be near family.
Mrs. Wood is survived by her two children, Robert Wood and DeEtta Bassett and husband Delray; six grandchildren, Steven Wood, David Wood and wife Liesa, DeLynn Wanders, Connie Craig and husband Bill, Michele Fenton and husband Art, and Jenny Brazill; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Wood was the last of her generation. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Oliver, Alvin, Oscar and Albert; her sister, Mable; daughter-in-law Patricia "Pat" Wood and her husband of 75 years Cecil Wood.
