Three Riverton High School cross country runners placed in the top 11 Thursday at the Thermopolis Invitational meet. Olivia Thompson paced the Wolverines with a seventh-place finish. Thompson ran the course in a time of 22:26.94. The sophomore was coming off a runner-up finish in her last meet in Lander. The meet was at the Thermopolis golf course. "The course in Thermopolis is a difficult course," Dayton said. "We like to go there because of that fact. It's good training for the Douglas state meet." Jillian C' Bearing finished 10th in 23:15.59. Ainur Zhuldybeava was 11th at 24:11.78. The meet had 44 runners in the field. "Ainur is really picking up the slack for us," Dayton said. "We are seeing good things out of our fourth and fifth runners." Taylor Harris ended 26th in 27:27.81, Aisha Durfey placed 27th at 27:43.28, and Camille Whiteman crossed the finish line 29th (27:59.44). "Aisha was a real good support for the other girls during the race," Dayton said. Worland's Sadie Wassum won the title after being clocked in 20:52.94. After Wassum, Cody placed the next five girls at the finish line. "We ran really good to place three in the top 11," Dayton said. "Cody has a really good team. Nobody in 3-A will probably beat them. It made the competition a little bit better." No team scores were kept in the meet. The meet had teams from Class 4-A, 3-A and 2-A. RHS boys Ben Zoller had the fastest time for the Wolverine boys Thursday in a time of 20:17.75. The pace put Zoller 17th. Thomas Beasley was 23rd for the Wolverines at 20:55.97. Tyler Stice placed 24th (20:59.93). "We like to see our underclassmen start to play a role," Dayton said. "They are our future." Brytan Spoonhunter checked in 26th in 21:01.34 and Dalton Perkins placed 27th at 21:01.75. Cody's Devin Brotherton won the title (17:18.94) and his teammate Brody Smith finished second (17:47.06).
