The Riverton Lady Wolverines volleyball team was cruising toward victory against the Cheyenne Central Lady Indians Thursday in Casper. RHS was up 23-17 in the fourth game, just one point away from what would have been match point, and then the wheels fell off.

Riverton fell to Central in five games 22-25, 25-22, 22-25, 26-24, 15-11.

Riverton was up in the fifth game also but couldn't hang on for the win.

"It was frustrating in the fact that we had them where we wanted them. We were doing what we needed to do to win, and we got scared of messing up. It's not rocket science in sports. Any time you play not to lose, you almost lose every time," RHS head coach Adrian McNamee said.

The Lady Wolverines will stay in Casper for three games at noon, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. against Gillette, Cody and Wheatland and will hope for a turnaround in their play at the Casper Invitational Tournament, just like one year ago. After losing to Central in five games the day before the Casper Invitational, the Lady Wolverines literally turned their season around and advanced to the gold bracket championship match of the Casper Invitational, destroying Central along the way.

"There is a mental edge that you have to have in volleyball. It takes everybody to win or lose. That is what causes those swings. It is such a mental game. In volleyball, you cannot hesitate," McNamee said.

Kiley Ridgway had four service aces, Ashley Lynott had 10 kills and 17 digs, Bree Olson had four blocks, and Kristen Bailey had 21 assists.

"We don't lack desire, but we play afraid to finish. If we can turn that leaf, we can be so amazing," McNamee said.
