WIHS Lady Chiefs look to Friday game against Lovell

Feb 23, 2012 - By Craig Blumenshine Staff Writer

Anneshia Hill piled in 23 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead the Wyoming Indian Lady Chiefs to a 46-42 first-round win over Rocky Mountain High School in the Class 2-A West regional basketball tournament Thursday at Riverton High School.

With the win, the Lady Chiefs advance to a Friday semi-final game against the top seed from the Northwest, the Lovell Lady Bulldogs. Friday's game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in Wolverine Gym.

The Lady Chiefs led by two at the halftime break. Although the game was tied twice in the third quarter at 24-24 and 26-26, WIHS never relinquished the lead.

Two baskets by Kim Goggles early in the fourth period, followed by a Hill drive for a quick left-handed layup, gave the Lady Chiefs their largest lead at 39-30 with 5:50 still to play.

"We didn't take care of the ball at the end of the game, but our seniors and underclassman players stepped up. We think Lovell is very beatable, but it will have to be our defense that can get us the win," Lady Chief head coach Aleta Moss said.

The Lady Chiefs shot a cold 2-13 from the free-throw line.

Kallee Wilson had 12 to lead Rocky Mountain, who will next play a loser-out game at 10:30 am Saturday.
