3-1 record for Rustler volleyball at Wyo-Braska

Sep 23, 2012 - By Bruce Tippets, Sports Editor

Central Wyoming College pilled up a 3-1 record Friday and Saturday at the Wyo-Braska volleyball tournament.

The Rustlers played three matches at Eastern Wyoming and one at Western Nebraska Community College.

The only loss in the two-day tournament was to WNCC.

WNCC swept the Rustlers 25-10, 25-19, 25-19. WNCC is the No. 3 ranked junior volleyball team in the country.

CWC beat a couple of ranked teams two weeks ago at a tournament in Scottsdale, Ariz.

"This time we didn't show up and play when we played Western Nebraska," CWC head coach Tiffany Stauffenberg said. "The first set was like we were half asleep. We didn't step up to the challenge, and that was disappointing."

CWC beat Air Force Prep 22-25, 25-10, 25-15, 25-10, and swept Northeastern Junior College 25-15, 25-14, 25-21.

"The other matches we played pretty well," Stauffenberg said. "I want us to give ourselves a chance to win every match, and we did that in every one except the first set against Western Nebraska."

CWC defeated Seward College 26-24, 25-17, 25-20 in the final match of the tournament. CWC is 11-4 on the season.

"Everyone is gaining confidence the more we play," Stauffenberg said. "We lose together, and we win together. It takes all 12 of them."

Home opener

After being on the road for the first month of the season, the Rustlers will host Sheridan College on Tuesday. "We are so ready to be at home," Stauffenberg said. "The road has been long, and we are ready for our home support." The match will start at 7 p.m. at Rustler Gym. CWC and Sheridan are in the Region IX conference. The Rustlers are 3-0 in the league standings.

"Sheridan has some talent, but I think that they have been a little inconsistent," Stauffenberg said.

Setter position

"We are running the 5-1 and Danielle Parker has been in there the most," Stauffenberg said.

"I like what she does and what she brings to every match we play. She has adjusted to our system and is getting more confident running the show,"

Abigail Ehlers is the backup setter for CWC.

"I wouldn't hesitate using if I needed her but right now, I'm going with Danielle."
