Sep 27, 2012 - From staff reportsShoshoni Recreation District 24 was awarded a $15,000 Let's Play Community Construction Grant from the Dr Pepper Snapple Group and the national nonprofit KaBoom! on Sept. 7.
The money will go toward upgrades to Travis Park, located directly behind the SRD building at 97 S. Maple St. in Shoshoni. The playground at the park has a working swing set, but the SRD said several bouncy animal toys have been broken. SRD staff will use the DPS grant to make improvements to the playground.
The SRD already has generated plans for the city's small playground, intending to let the community pick out a structure and help with the building process. A community build is scheduled for spring of 2013, and until then the SRD staff will continue to fundraise and plan for the design.
Through Let's Play grants and projects in 2011, the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group and KaBoom! built or improved 528 playgrounds, benefitting an estimated 1.3 million children during the lifetime of the playgrounds.
