Violet F. Miller died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, in Dubois. She was 87 years old.

A funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Dubois. There will be a meal served in the church basement after the service.

Violet Elaine Schilling was born Oct. 5, 1924, at home in rural Sheridan County, the daughter of August and Rose Schilling. She grew up in Sheridan and graduated from Sheridan High School.

She married the Rev. Leo J. Fenske on Nov. 10, 1942, in Sheridan. They lived in Kinnear, Bellefont, Kan., Natrona, Kan., Leavenworth, Kan., Pueblo, Colo., Arvada, Colo., Pendleton, Ore., Hudson, Colo., and Paonia, Colo., as her husband served congregations in these communities. They had six children and were married for 49 years until his death in 1992.

She married George Walsh of Paonia, Colo., in 1993. This union lasted five years until his death in 1998.

She married Fremont Miller of Dubois in 1999, and they were married for three years until his death in 2002.

After her children were grown, Mrs. Miller was active as a hospital volunteer, census worker and a school cafeteria aide.

At the time of her death, she was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. She was a devout Christian, active in her church life, a prayer champion and a peacemaker.

Her family said Mrs. Miller was a devoted wife and wonderful mother and grandmother. They said she enjoyed gardening, reading and puzzles of all kinds from Scrabble to crossword and word find puzzles.

She is survived by her children, Kathryn Barr of Dubois, Daniel and his wife Karen of Fort Collins, Colo., Mark and his wife Debbie of Whitewater, Colo., Martin and his wife Sherry of Gilbert, Ariz., Stephen and his wife Laurie of Fruita, Colo., and David and his wife Gretchen of Albuquerque; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her three husbands; two sisters, Regina Hunter and Bernice Miller; daughter-in-law Carma Fenske; son-in-law Earl Barr; and granddaughter Marcy Fenske.
