CWC women in top five at Chadron rodeo; goat tyer second individually

Sep 27, 2012 - By Bruce Tippets, Sports Editor

Central Wyoming College cowgirl Shaylee Hance improved three spots in the goat tying event from the Rustler Roundup to place second Sunday at the Chadron State rodeo.

Hance finished her two-ride time at 15.7 seconds. Gillette's Megan Belus won the goat tying title in 15.3 seconds.

Chadron's Dawn Scott was third (16.0 seconds), and Kaycee Nelson from Wyoming finished fourth (16.3).

"Shaylee did a great job, but more important is that she has tied four goats this year and has solid runs on all of them," CWC coach Drew Schrock said.

Teammate Kaylee Frances finished fifth in barrel racing for a total of 35.29 seconds.

In the team standings, the CWC women ended fifth at 150 points. Northeastern Junior College won the women's team title with 420 points. The University of Wyoming finished second (260 points) and Gillette College was third (215).

The Rustlers were seventh in the men's team standings at 165 points. Gillette College placed first, scoring 370 points. Northeastern Junior College finished second (300).

"We had a great long round rodeo at Chadron with some tough luck in the short round (finals)," Schrock said. "The kids came back and worked hard this week. We have had great practices, so I'm excited for Sheridan."

The Sheridan College rodeo is Friday through Sunday.

Rustler men

CWC's Stetson Jorgensen finished fourth in the men's all-around title putting up 25 points. Wyoming's Jeffery Clark claimed the all-around title, scoring 220 points.

Jorgensen opened the rodeo riding his saddle bronc horse to a 64 on his first day. Jorgensen was bucked off in the finals.

Jorgensen placed eighth in steer wrestling after a time of 5.0 seconds in his first run.

"Stetson had a great rodeo," Schrock said. "He didn't have that great of short round in the rodeo. I was not disappointed in him. His steer wrestling horse was sore that morning of the short round and that cost him in his steer wrestling run. It's always fun to watch him compete."

CWC's Coltin Hill finished third in steer wrestling (10.2 seconds), and teammate Cooper Clemens was sixth (23.2).

"Coltin always works hard at practice, so I knew it wasn't long before he did some winning," Schrock said. "His horse has been starting to work better and that is letting Coltin take care of his business. This won't be the last time we are talking about him."

Colton Miller added a third-place for CWC in saddle bronc riding, chalking up a 64-point ride.

Spratt places

Northeastern Junior College freshman Coralee Spratt finished fourth in the women's all-around event at Chadron.

The former Shoshoni High School rodeo standout scored 110 points in the three-day event. Northeastern's Hayden Segelke won the all-around buckle with 230 points.

Spratt placed seventh in goat tying at 16.6 seconds.

She was fourth in the barrel racing at 35.23 seconds in two runs.
