RHS spikers to play Evanston, Green River

The Riverton volleyball players make their longest conference road trip of the season Friday and Saturday when they try to complete a Class 4-A West sweep against Green River and earn a league split against the Red Devils -- a team Riverton played one week ago.

"It is weird having a full week of practice when you are used to playing on a Thursday or even on a Tuesday," Wolverine head coach Adrian McNamee said. "It has been nice having four straight days of practice."

In statewide media polling, Evanston remains the third ranked team in Wyoming behind Gillette and Cheyenne East who are set to play each other this weekend in Class 4-A East conference play.

The Wolverines will have their work cut out for them this weekend. Earlier this year, Riverton beat Green River in five games, the last of which was a 17-15 thriller. Last week, Riverton lost to Evanston in three straight, close matches, all with an identical 25-23 score.

"It isn't any easier or any harder if we play Green River first or Evanston first," McNamee said. "Road trips are hard trying to go into somebody else's gym and playing well."

In statewide statistics released this week, RHS senior Kristen Bailey leads all Wyoming servers in aces per game with .8 and sophomore Kiley Ridgway is the Class 4-A West top blocker averaging .9 blocks per game.

Senior Amy Woodward is third in blocking with .7 blocks per game. As a team, Riverton is the second best blocking team in Wyoming, averaging 2.6 blocks per game.

Defensively, Ashley Lynott is fourth in the West averaging 3.4 digs per set.

Game time for Friday's match is 6 p.m. in Green River, and Saturday's varsity match with the Red Devils starts at 2 p.m.
